Wheely good summer in Darlington
HUNDREDS of youngsters have had fun in the sun on Darlington’s first ever roller-skating rink.
The rink was in the market square for the first two weeks of the summer holiday and proved to be a big hit with almost 3,000 youngsters enjoying a spin around the rink.
More active events are set to follow with Extreme skateboarding, mini-golf, cycling events, a climbing wall and go-karting, every Wednesday in the market square throughout the holidays.
On Wednesday 4 August Team Extreme breezes into the market square with their own brand of four wheeled fun from 11am-5pm. Youngsters can enjoy free skateboarding displays, workshops and have-a-go sessions as well as watch the pros in action. Highlights include professional inline skaters, Kayla Carmichael and Danny Aldridge, Red Bull sponsored BMX rider - Kieran Reilly, former X-games competitor Doug Peel and many more.
Mini-golf fans can tour the landmarks of the world as Landmark Golf comes to the market square on Wednesday 11 August. Young golfers can putt their way around The Tyne Bridge, Statue of Liberty, the Taj Mahal and many more with free mini- golf from 11am-4pm.

Councillor Alan Marshall, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for economy and regeneration, said: “Our town centre team has pulled out all the stops to make Wednesdays wonderful with lots of active things to keep youngsters busy and entertained. There’s lots going on throughout the summer and I would advise anyone to check out our Enjoy Darlington website and our #LoveDarlo Facebook page to make sure they don’t miss out on these free events.
“With two hours free parking in many of our town centre car parks (don’t forget to get a ticket from the machine), a huge range of independent and national retailers, cafes and bars and fantastic yards and wynds, what’s not to love about our wonderful town centre."
