A new director for Darlington Hippodrome
25 July 2019

Lynda Winstanley, Theatre Director of Darlington Hippodrome, retires this week after 35 years of commitment to the arts in Darlington.

As Theatre Director, Lynda oversaw the major £13.7m transformation of the Civic which re-opened in November 2017 as Darlington Hippodrome.

Taking over from Lynda is Heather Tarran-Jones. Heather joined the theatre’s senior team from Oxfam in 2015 as Fundraising and Development Director, leading on the capital fundraising for the restoration of the venue as well as steering the participation and heritage learning team. She now takes on a new mantle as Programming and Development Director following a handover period of several months.

Mike Crawshaw, Head of Culture and Heritage for Darlington Borough Council, says ‘Lynda has been a formidable force for the arts in Darlington for almost four decades, leading the theatre to a secure future and into a position from where it goes from strength to strength. She has an absolute wealth of experience which we have been mining from her during this transitionary period and, while we will miss her presence immeasurably, I cannot think of a better person to take over than Heather Tarran-Jones who has been such a key part of the team over recent years. Lynda started working here as an usherette and now she ushers in a bright new future. I wish her all the best in her retirement and look forward to working with Heather and her team to see the theatre continue to flourish and prosper.’
