Off the Rails: An exhibition by Bill Oakey
The New Year sees a new exhibition opening at Head of Steam – Darlington Railway Museum this weekend featuring the work of artist Bill Oakey.
Bill Oakey, of Northallerton, has painted all of his life and after being a picture framer and gallery owner for eighteen years, he now paints full time. His ‘Off the Rails’ exhibition has a railway-theme, but will focus on the staff passengers and volunteers who play such an important part in the railways.
Bill said: “There is a grand tradition of painting trains which I realise I have ignored, as I found myself more interested in the people around steam rather than the personality of steam trains.”
Leona White-Hannant, Museum Manager and Curator, added: “We’re delighted to be hosting an exhibition by Bill and having the opportunity to showcase his work.”
The exhibition opens on Saturday 11 January and runs until Sunday 8 March. The exhibition is included in admission and annual passes.
