Coronavirus: Capital projects work to resume gradually
07 May 2020

Darlington Borough Council is to begin the process of gradually re-starting some of its capital projects programme.

Government guidelines around social distancing and enhanced health and safety measures will be strictly observed.

This move, in line with the Government guidance, is a positive step towards getting Darlington’s economy moving again.

From next week members of the public may notice a gradual return of council staff and contractors on site. This will start with returning to those sites that were closed at the start of the national lockdown.

Councillor Alan Marshall, Darlington Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Economy, said: “We have taken on board further Government advice, including a memo from the Department for Transport on the subject of roads maintenance and construction.

“I want to reassure people that we would never do anything to put the public, or our own staff or contractors at risk, so we will keep this situation under review and adjust as necessary over the coming weeks and months.

“It’s important that we take the right steps, at the right time, to get our Borough’s economy moving again, but always taking into account the latest public health and Government guidelines.”
