Eastbourne Sports Complex set to re-open

Eastbourne Sports Complex set to re-open
30 June 2020

Darlington residents are on track to get active as Eastbourne Sports Complex begins to reopen its facilities to the public after three months out of action due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Members from Darlington Harriers running club are now able to get back into training as the centre eight lane all-weather track opens up. Anyone keen to use the track, whether or not they are in a club, can book a slot by contacting the centre. Times are available Tuesday to Friday, 10am–5pm and on Wednesday evenings, 5-8pm.

Keen bowlers are now able to enjoy their hobby as the bowling green is now open 5 days a week for club users and potential new members. Bowlers are following social distancing guidelines and following other health and safety rules to prevent transmission of the virus. Anyone keen to take up bowls can contact Alan Cooper on 01325 260769.

Football clubs are now able to book grass pitches on the site and the all-weather pitch will be open for clubs and general hire from today (Tuesday 30 June).

Councillor Kevin Nicholson, Darlington Borough Council’s Cabinet member for health and housing said: “As lockdown eases it is great to see that many people can now get back to doing what they love. Taking part in sports, keeping active and being part of a club are all part of what keeps us healthy and feeling happy.

“We are lucky to have this great facility on our doorstep where we can offer a great mix of outdoor activities. The Move More team at Eastbourne has worked incredibly hard to change how they operate and to make sure they can provide the facilities in a safe way for everyone.

“It is hoped that they will be able to offer extra activities and classes very soon to help even more people get back to doing the things they enjoy.”
