Darlington's first ever virtual Jobs Fair

Darlington's first ever virtual Jobs Fair is set to go live on Thursday 8 October from 11am-1pm as part of Darlington Borough Council’s Business Week, a week of online free sessions and workshops from 5 – 9 October aimed at supporting local businesses as they recover from the pandemic.

It is hoped that hundreds of local vacancies and opportunities will be made available to local jobseekers and those looking for vocational training or a career change.

The online event will be hosted on the Invest in Darlington Facebook page and will allow organisations who have vacancies to post their jobs and or training opportunities in a live two-hour slot. Members of the public can then browse the links to the jobs and training throughout the event.

In recent years, the Jobs Fair has attracted hundreds of job seekers to the Dolphin Centre’s Central Hall where they could browse the stalls and meet employers. This year, to allow for Covid restrictions, the event will be online.

Councillor Alan Marshall, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for economy and regeneration, said:

“Helping local people into work and training is a key aim for me personally and also for the council.

“I hope that people are able to join in the event from the comfort of their home and are able to find out about the wealth of opportunities available in Darlington.

“We’ve all had to find a new way of working during this pandemic, and this event will now offer a new way to find work.”

The Council’s Business Investment Team is organising the event and is keen to hear from local and regional companies who have current vacancies. They are invited to email details to: [email protected]

Anyone wishing to “attend” the event will need to follow the Invest in Darlington page on Facebook and click on the event on Thursday 8 October between 11am and 1pm.
