Applications open for new round of Business Grants in Darlington
Since the start of the covid-19 crisis, Darlington Borough Council has administered more than £26.5m of grant payments to help local businesses survive the impact of the pandemic. This newly released support is part of a national package of government measures to help businesses with support towards on-going fixed costs.
Following the implementation of the national lockdown on 5 January 2021, the Chancellor has announced additional support measures, including further grants to support businesses during the latest lockdown period.
These new grants will focus on property related costs for businesses forced to close. There are also new top-up grants of up to £9,000 aimed at the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors. These grants are available for those businesses required to close, or substantially close, by the imposition of the Tier 4 restrictions from 31 December 2020, and subsequently the National Lockdown from 5th January 2021.
The Council is now taking applications for this support. Eligibility criteria and application details can be found at www.darlington.gov.uk/support-grant-tier4
The council is committed to supporting local businesses, and has worked closely with government, partners, stakeholders and other organisations to deliver the various support schemes. So far, there have been:
• 1735 Small Business Grants amounting to £17,350,000
• 364 Retail, Hospitality & Leisure Grants amounting to £6,520,000
• 105 Discretionary Grants amounting to £1,170,000.
• 1,160 Local Restriction Support Grants amounting to £1,587,312
Councillor Heather Scott, Leader of Darlington Borough Council, said:
“I am delighted that, within just a few days of the Chancellor’s announcement, we are now in a position to take applications for this support, and would encourage all businesses to follow our dedicated webpage for news of grant updates, as well as keeping in touch with us via our social media to make sure they can remain up-to-date with the business support available.
“The level of support already given to local businesses is staggering and I applaud our teams who have processed these grants. They have responded swiftly and under intense pressure to make sure our local businesses can survive this intensely challenging and fluid trading period.”
Councillor Alan Marshall, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for economy, added:
“We are working hard to support local businesses in as many ways as we can. I urge businesses to check out our webpages and see what Government support they may qualify for. In all cases, and to help speed the application process, I advise all those who wish to apply for any support to make sure they check the guidance and eligibility criteria before they submit their application.
“Alongside this, we are supporting businesses through providing online development workshops. Any local business offering online delivery, food takeaways or click and collect services, can also take advantage of the #LoveDarlo Facebook page and Enjoy Darlington website to help market their services locally for free.”
