Darlington roads affected by upcoming roadworks
A number of Darlington roads will be affected by upcoming roadworks.
The A6072 at Heighington Bypass will be closed for approximately 12 days from Wednesday 26 May as carriageway resurfacing takes place from the C39a Coatsay Moor Lane northwards to the roundabout at School Aycliffe Lane.
The works are weather dependent so the dates are subject to change.
The work will be carried out in two phases:
Phase 1 - May 26 - June 4
The road closure will start from the junction of C39a Coatsay Moor Lane northwards to the School Aycliffe roundabout. During this phase of works the Coatsay Moor Lane junction will be open to Heighington village residents only.
The Arriva X1 bus service will operate as normal from Darlington town centre to the A6072 Coatsay Moor Lane and then divert non-stop via Heighington village (Coatsay Moor Lane, Darlington Road and Redworth Road) to the A6072 Redworth Road as normal and vice versa. Arriva service 1 is unaffected and will operate as normal. All bus stops will continue to be served as normal.
Phase 2 - June 5 - 6
The closure of the A6072 will be from Swan House roundabout to School Aycliffe roundabout to facilitate works at the junction of Coatsay Moor Lane. During this phase of works no traffic will be able to gain access to Heighington Village via the A6072. Residents of Heighington can use Walworth Road, Beech Crescent, Redworth Road or Highside Road.
A diversion route will be signed via A68 and A688 and will be in place for the duration of the closure.
During this phase Arriva bus services 1 and X1 will divert via Heighington Lane, Aycliffe Village, A1(M), to West Auckland Road. Therefore there will be no bus service in Heighington village during this phase.
Another road closure is the C46 Elstob Lane to Bishopton from the east side of the junction to Little Stainton eastwards to the west side of the access road to Gilly Flatts. This will be closed for approximately three days between 8am-6pm from May 26, 2021 to allow BT Openreach to carry out essential works.
An alternative route will be signed via Elstob Lane, C38 Great Stainton to Bishopton and vice versa.
