We have now adopted the Local Plan (2016-2036)

The Secretary of State appointed an independent inspector, William Fieldhouse BA(Hons) MA, MRTPI, to examine the plan. His report was published in January 2022.

The inspector confirmed the plan was sound and capable of adoption subject to some main modifications.

The Local Plan includes:

• recommended main modifications
• consequential minor modifications

It replaces:

• saved policies of the Borough of Darlington Local Plan 1997 (updated 2001)
• the Darlington Core Strategy (2011)

Concerned about the new Local Plan?

You can make an application to the High Court under Section 113 (3) of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 on certain grounds, by 1 April 2022.
