Town celebrates the Jubilee in style
07 June 2022

Thousands of people flocked to the town centre over the long weekend to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

A host of live music, arts and crafts and family activities ensured the crowds were entertained over the long weekend.

People gathered to watch the official Jubilee beacon being lit on Thursday night as part of a ceremony conducted simultaneously across the Commonwealth.

The Trooping of the Colour and the Platinum Party in the Palace in London were shown live on the big screen in the Market Place as well as family favourite Mary Poppins – with some of the characters making a surprise appearance in the town centre!

Jonathan Dulston, leader of the council, said: “This was a phenomenal event and we can all be proud of how the town celebrated this historic occasion.

“I know there were lots of street parties and community events as the long weekend came to a close and it was lovely to see so many people celebrating with their families, friends and neighbours.

“We definitely proved that Darlington is a great place to live and to visit and we know how to put on a show and celebrate in style!”
