Benji Bin spreads the recycle right message!

Pupils at West Park Academy were delighted when a bin wagon visited their school to spread the recycle right message.
One of our recycling wagons visited the school and pupils took the chance to have a look around, spot Benji Bin, ask questions and even climb into the cab!
Benji Bin is the our recycling mascot who features on our wagons and in online videos teaching everyone why it’s important to recycle right.
The children watched the videos before the wagon arrived and were given a sticker to turn their recycling bin at home into their very own Benji to help their families remember what goes where when they recycle.
It is hoped that the school visit and the stickers will encourage people to think about recycling and make sure they put the right thing in the right bin.
If recycling is mixed up and not put in the right bin it can’t easily be recycled and can cost us money to get rid of.
David Fraser, teacher and ICT coordinator at the school, said: “We were delighted to have Benji Bin come visit West Park Academy. This week we are theming all our lessons around STEM subjects and it was great to start the week talking about the importance of recycling and how technology is used to help recycle. The children thoroughly enjoyed the visit and in class they followed up by sorting recycling and making their own recycling mascot out of recycled materials.”
Andy Keir, cabinet member for local services, said: “It’s important that everyone does their bit to recycle right and hopefully these children will encourage their families to put the right things in the right bins.”
If you would like to turn your bin into Benji you can pick a sticker up a the town’s two libraries, the Head of Steam museum and the soft play in the Dolphin Centre. We’d love to see your Benji photos so if you post them on social media please tag us.
