Summer sponsorship takes centre stage
Live music and entertainment will fill Darlington town centre this summer thanks to sponsorship from Northumbrian Water.
The Summer Stage will stay in the Market Square across the school holidays, along with a pop-up park area complete with grass flooring and deckchairs, to provide entertainment for the exciting line-up of events planned.
Northumbrian Water has chosen to sponsor the Summer Stage as part of its commitment to the communities it serves. The company will also have representatives at each of the events to speak to customers about it services.
The Summer Stage will be installed on July 25 ahead of the popular three-day Darlington by the Sea event, which takes place from Tuesday, July 26 to Thursday, July 28. The family event will feature a large beach in the Market Square, street entertainers, fairground rides and a show by Party Boppers.
Other events featuring the Summer Stage include the Dolphin Centre’s 40th birthday celebrations (July 30), the Darlington 10k (August 7), MonGay Pride (August 8) and the Pride Festival (August 13), the Urban Street Festival (August 16-18) and a new event, Fairy Tales and Legends (August 24).
The summer of fun will come to an end with Mish Mash music festival (August 27-28) and the RnB Festival (September 10-11).
Jennie Collingwood, head of marketing and external communications at Northumbrian Water, said: “Darlington Borough Council are lining up a fantastic summer events programme and we are thrilled to be able to help support it as headline sponsor of the summer stage.

Councillor Alan Marshall, cabinet member for economy, said: “We’ve an exciting programme of events across the summer months with something for all the family and I’d encourage everyone to come along and join the fun. The Summer Stage is a fantastic idea that will add to the vibrant atmosphere in the town.
“I’m delighted Northumbrian Water have chosen to support Darlington and to help us keep our calendar of events free for everyone to enjoy.”
