Darlington by the Sea returns!
19 July 2022

Slap on some sunscreen and dig out your bucket and spade – the beach is coming to town as Darlington by the Sea returns!

Tonnes of sand will be delivered to Market Square on Tuesday, July 26, creating a clean, safe beach to build sandcastles, dig holes and bury dad’s feet.

The beach will be in place for three days, open from 11am to 5pm each day, along with deckchairs and beach toys.

To add to the feel of a seaside resort there will also be live entertainment across the three days from Tom Rolf and the Party Boppers, as well as free face painting, balloon animals and sand art.

There will also be fairground rides, which will cost £1 a go.

The event is sponsored by Little Learners Darlington, which will also be providing a Little Learners Zone, with craft and mark making activities.

Jemma Ransom, from Little Learners Darlington, said: “I’m really excited to be involved with Darlington by the Sea, it’s such a great thing for families to do together. It looks set to be three days of fun and I look forward to welcoming children to the Little Learners Zone.”

The event will also feature the Summer Stage, sponsored by Northumbrian Water, which will provide music and entertainment at every event held in the town centre during the school holidays.

Councillor Alan Marshall, cabinet member for economy, said: “Darlington by the Sea has always been one of our most popular events but this is the first time we’ve been able to host it since 2019 due to the pandemic and I’m pleased to see it back.

“It’s easy to just view it as a simple activity but we recognise that for some families a trip to the coast isn’t always easy – this brings the beach to everyone in Darlington and is something we hope people young and old will enjoy.”

Visitors to Darlington by the Sea are urged to wear sunscreen and a hat and to bring a bottle of water with them.
