Make your bin happy this Christmas!

Make your bin happy this Christmas!
12 December 2022

We are asking residents to make their bin happy this Christmas by recycling right.

By putting the right things in the right bin you can help us recycle more which is great for the environment. We are also paid for each tonne of properly sorted recycling we collect – money that can be spent on a range of services but we have to pay to have contaminated recycling sorted.

As we enter the festive period here’s a few recycling dos and don’ts

We can recycle:

  • cards and envelopes (no glitter or decorations)
  • cardboard tubes from wrapping paper and crackers
  • glass and plastic bottles and cans
  • chocolates tins and plastic boxes
  • non-greasy food boxes (party food, mince pies etc)

We can’t recycle:

  • gift bags
  • decorations
  • plastic bags
  • containers, boxes or trays with food on them

We are supporting St Teresa Hospice’s real Christmas tree recycling scheme again this year. Find out how you can get your tree collected for a small donation by visiting www.darlingtonhospice.org.uk

The good news is that bin collections will remain the same for the vast majority of residents this Christmas and New Year. The only exceptions are those people expecting a collection on Monday 26 December and 2 January. These will now take place on Tuesday 27 December and 3 January.

Please make sure your bins are ready for collection at 7am as collections times throughout the festive period may change.
