Darlington Jobs Fair Success
10 February 2023

Almost 1500 people came through the door at yesterday’s (Thursday 9 Feb 2023) Darlington Jobs Fair, hundreds more than last year. The success has prompted event organisers, Darlington Borough Council’s business support team, to set a date for the next Darlington Jobs Fair – Thursday 29 June.

A wide range of jobs, training, support and advice was on offer from more than 70 organisations. There were opportunities for people of all ages, interests and backgrounds with roles including fitness instructors, care workers, Police, the Armed Forces, finance, retail and management.

The council’s Learning and Skills and Youth Employment initiative (YEI) teams were on hand to talk through the great range of training courses, apprenticeships and employment opportunities across the borough alongside human resources and other departments, all with real time vacancies. The job boards around the venue also featured many local vacancies.

The new language and translation support hub proved to be popular and the free workshops from Google Digital Garage on CV skills and career goals and a workshop with Darlington Economic Campus on local opportunities within the Civil Service were well attended.

A free jobs newspaper, supported by Tees Valley Combined Authority, was available on the day for people to take away and browse local jobs at their leisure. This can be accessed online for anyone who could not attend on the day at: http://bit.ly/3jLkoI2  and on our website

Councillor Jamie Bartch, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for economy said:

“Our Jobs Fair has been an amazing success with more people than ever having the chance to browse the wide range of stands to talk face to face with potential employers and training providers and also to take part in the free workshops on offer. It has proved to be a one stop shop for people looking for a change of career or for their first step on their path to the perfect job.

“We have a wealth of opportunities on our doorstep with local and national employers, not to mention the fantastic range of roles within the Civil Service available at the Darlington Economic Campus. We are seeing the revival of our town as a powerhouse which I am proud to be a part of as we work to have our town grow and prosper.

“I urge any organisations who are keen to get involved in the next event to act quickly and reserve their space. We had more businesses than we could accommodate at this last event so please get in touch sooner rather than later.

“I would also like to thank the hardworking team who went above and beyond bringing this event together."
