Free social media workshop
12 January 2024

Clubs, community groups and local businesses, with sustainability at their heart are being encouraged to take a leap of faith and sign up for a free social media workshop on Thursday 29 February,

Set to take place at the Dolphin Centre from 6-8pm, the two-hour session will be delivered by Kerry Metcalfe owner and founder of Darlington based marketing company KMedia. Places are already going quickly and are limited.

The aim of the workshop is to enable local groups and small businesses who have a keen interest in sustainability to learn how to use social media to its full potential to help them promote their activities. The event forms part of Darlington Borough Council’s renewed ambition to become carbon neutral by 2040.

Last year the target to become net zero was brought forward from 2050 to 2040. With this came a new objective, to help promote sustainability throughout the whole community. The new workshop will help community groups and sustainable businesses to achieve this.

The workshops will be interactive and will cover:

  • An overview of main social media platforms
  • Understanding the ever-changing algorithms
  • Content creation - what to post and time-saving tips
  • Understanding social media analytics
  • Ensuring your branding online
  • Copy of online content calendar template

Places are limited and for a maximum of two per organisation/club. Free places can be booked at:

Chris McEwan, cabinet member for economy said: “This is a brilliant way to help local groups and businesses to connect with their potential audiences and customers and in turn, help spread the word about living more sustainably.

“There are some brilliant local groups out there doing excellent work in our community, very often on a voluntary basis, and this is one of the ways they can get recognition for their hard work and also get more people to join them.

“We remain committed to our aims towards a carbon neutral future, and we want to encourage local residents and businesses to join us on this journey. This is a practical way that we can offer the modern-day tools needed to reach an audience with important messages and products. I urge relevant groups and businesses to sign up and take advantage of this great opportunity.”

Kerry added: “I have over a decade of experience with social media marketing so I'm lucky to have seen it grow from almost nothing to where it is today. Since I launched my own marketing agency, I've worked with a variety of businesses across a range of industries and my number one goal is to make marketing on social media FUN!

“It's one of the most powerful free advertising platforms available and when utilised effectively can bring huge returns. This workshop will be interactive and relaxed, and you will leave understanding the science and data behind social media, enough to be able to plan for your own profiles efficiently. You'll also receive my fool-proof content calendar template to ensure you're able to prepare for the months ahead with ease."
