Set your stall out for Darlington’s Eco Fair

Set your stall out for Darlington’s Eco Fair
25 January 2024

Sustainable and eco-friendly businesses, community groups and organisations still have time to get involved in this year’s Eco Fair in Darlington taking place on Saturday 8 June, 10am-3pm.

The theme for this year’s event is family fun with a marquee set up in the market square along with stalls, free activities and an eco-trail that will take families on a journey of discovery and activity around the town.

A wide range of businesses have already signed up to the event that will see a range of stalls, exhibitions and interactive activities, all with a sustainability theme. Businesses and groups already on board include: Sustrans, Arriva, the Woodland Trust, Northumbrian Water, Earth Warriors, Queensway Orthodontics and Darlington Beekeepers’ Association, have already signed up.

The event will offer a unique opportunity for businesses, including local food producers, to help showcase their sustainable practises, products and services and how they are working towards being more sustainable and, in some cases, carbon neutral by reducing waste and energy usage.

Not for profit organisations, nature groups, local community groups as well as health and wellbeing and sustainable arts and crafts will all be encouraged to take part hosting exhibitions and demonstrations.

Councillor Chris McEwan, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for economy, said:

“This year’s event promises to be a celebration of sustainability and will see more activity in the market square, making it more accessible to everyone. In addition, the Eco-trail will help people to explore the great range of shops, businesses and venues we have here that share in our aims to reduce, reuse and to tackle climate change an as many ways as we can.

“I urge local businesses and community groups to get involved and take this unique opportunity to showcase what they are doing to help everyone on their journey to reduce carbon emissions and help tackle climate change.

“As a council, we’ve brought forward our pledge to become carbon neutral by 2040. This pledge covers all service areas and includes our aim to encourage residents and businesses to join us on the journey towards a greener and more sustainable future.  We want the event to be fun for all but with a serious underlying message that we all need to and can take action to help tackle this hugely important issue that already does and will affect us all.”
