Get set for Emergency Services Day event!
30 May 2024

Join us for a special celebration as we honour and support the heroes who help keep our community safe.

We will be hosting an Emergency Services Day on Saturday 1 June when we will be showing our pride and appreciation for the police, ambulance crews, firefighters, and other organisations who help us every day.

Organised by the council’s community safety team and proudly sponsored by Freeman Johnson Solicitors, the event welcomes a host of emergency services vehicles and staff in the Market Square.

County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service will have firefighters on hand and will have a special fire appliance and fire engine on show.

A range of emergency service vehicles will be on display – subject to operational commitments. Staff from the council’s civic enforcement and CCTV teams will also be on hand, along with representatives from Northumbria Blood Bikes and the Office of the Durham Police and Crime Commissioner.

Young visitors can also enjoy free face painting and a balloon artist.

Cllr Dr Amanda Riley, cabinet member for stronger communities, said: “Our community safety team continues to develop very close working relationships with the emergency services and other organisations. We all have the same aim - to make Darlington a safe place for all to enjoy - and we are thrilled to be able to get together on this special day to say thanks to all those who work so hard in our communities.

“We’d love to see as many people as possible in the Market Square as we celebrate our local heroes who do so much for our community.”

Sarah Hall, solicitor and partner at event sponsor Freeman Johnson Solicitors, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Emergency Services Day here in Darlington town centre. This event is a great way to highlight and celebrate the fantastic work our emergency services do to keep our communities safe. We’re looking forward to what promises to be a great event!”

The Emergency Services Day will be held in the Market Square, 10am-4pm.

We look forward to welcoming you for a day filled with free family fun!
