Share your views to help your community

Residents in the Northgate and North Road areas are being urged to share their views on how to help improve their area and build a stronger community.
Feedback from a series of public meetings has revealed that those who live and work in the area like the sense of community in the neighbourhood, its good transport links into town, and the fact it’s close to schools and parks.
However, they feel the environment is spoiled by dog owners not cleaning up after their pets, rubbish fly-tipped in back lanes and anti-social behaviour. Many also don’t feel confident to report issues or are not sure who to report them to.
The Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP), which brings together Durham Police, the Durham Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office and the council, is keen to hear more from local residents and businesses on how to improve ‘quality of life’ issues.
It has issued an open invitation to residents, businesses and local organisations to attend a meeting at The Annexe, Central House, Gladston Street, on Wednesday, 16 October, 6-8pm.
Cllr Amanda Riley, the council's cabinet member for stronger communities, explained: “We know there’s a lot of things people like about living in the area, but there are also issues that we need to tackle and it’s not something we can do alone.
“We need to work with local residents, businesses and others to identify the main problems and come up with practical solutions – we need ideas for improvement by the people for the people.
“It’s only by working together that we can make a difference, and the first step is to come along to the meeting and share your ideas.”
Anyone who wishes to attend is asked to confirm by emailing [email protected] or call 01325 406782.
