Final garden waste collections for 2024

Final garden waste collections for 2024
29 November 2024

A reminder has been issued to householders that the last garden waste collections for 2024 will be carried out next month (December).

Garden waste collections are carried out fortnightly, and the final two-week cycle of collections will run from Monday 2 December until Friday 13 December.

Almost 10,600 households signed up for the service this year and we expect more than 2,800 tonnes of garden waste will have been collected by the end of the year. This is recycled and used for agricultural fertilizer and soil production.

Reminders will be sent out to existing customers via either email or a letter.

Councillor Libby McCollom, the council’s cabinet member for local services, said: “We’ve seen another record number of households sign up to the garden waste collection service this year, with almost 10,600 who purchased 11,145 bins between them, as some use more than one bin.

“This means we’re also able to recycle more garden waste too, which is great news, and I’m pleased to say that we’ll be running the service again next year from mid-March to the end of November.”

You can double check when your last collection is due on our website www.darlington.gov.uk simply click on ‘Find your bin day’ and enter your postcode in the search box.

Details of how to renew online for 2025 collections, or how to sign up for the first time, will be available from mid-January. For more details about the service visit www.darlington.gov.uk/gardenwaste

Don’t forget you can sign up for an email reminder to tell you when your bin is due to be collected and which bin to put out? If there is a scheduled change to collections like at Christmas, we will remind you of your new date too! To set up reminders log into your My Darlington+ account and go to the 'My Alerts' tab.
