Stop Smoking Hub support events

Stop Smoking Hub support events
25 April 2025

The council’s Stop Smoking Hub are holding two events to encourage smokers to stop smoking and to remind people who use disposable vapes to swap to a UK-regulated vape.

From Sunday, 1 June 2025, all disposable, single use vapes, including non-nicotine versions, will be banned from sale and, only UK-regulated, vapes will be legal.

To support residents who smoke and/or use disposable, single use vapes, ahead of the ban, staff from the Darlington Stop Smoking Hub are holding two events. The Stop Smoking Hub staff will be at Pease Monument, Darlington Town Centre from 10am-4pm on Thursday 1 May and Thursday 5 June, handing out information, talking to people who smoke and/or vape,  encouraging people to refer themselves to the stop smoking hub - which offers a 12 week stop smoking programme with a success rate of over 80% and advising people to ditch their disposable vapes in the bin provided, in exchange for a UK regulated version, which will be handed out until stock has gone, (on a first come, first served basis).

UK-regulated vapes will be given to anyone over the age of 18 years who wants to quit smoking or swap their disposable, single-use vapes for a UK-regulated one to support a quit attempt.

Matthew Roche, cabinet member for health and housing, said: “We welcome the ban on disposable vapes and the use of only UK-regulated versions. Littered disposable vapes are an eyesore and introduce harmful chemicals to the soil, rivers, and streams, and far too many of our underage young people vape. Disposable vapes are bright and attractive, which allure young people and waste their money. We hope that the ban on single use vapes will help to reduce the number of young people vaping.”

Quitting smoking is the best thing you can do for your health and your finances. Cigarettes are expensive and cost lives, too!

The Stop Smoking Hub staff can help you quit for good. Your stop-smoking journey may include a UK-regulated vape. Pop along for a chat and pick up a free UK-regulated vape whilst you can. It is never too late to try to quit!

The stop smoking hub, funded by the council, offers face-to-face appointments at venues across the borough and telephone support to quit smoking through behavioural support, UK-regulated vapes, Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) products and medications.

Tobacco is the biggest cause of cancer, ill health, and early deaths in the UK. It also has a huge impact on people’s financial situations.

Stop smoking – save your life and your cash.
