Toe-tapping fun at GOLD Tea Dance

Toe-tapping fun at GOLD Tea Dance
30 June 2025

Toe-tapping fun will soon be coming back to Darlington as the GOLD Tea Dance returns thanks to the support of HC-One, Caring with kindness.

The annual event, organised by Growing Older Living in Darlington (GOLD), has once again been made possible with the generous sponsorship of HC-One and will be taking over the Market Square on Wednesday 16 July, 11am-3pm.

The event is supported by Darlington Borough Council’s events team, while tea and biscuits have been donated by Ringtons Ltd with some traditional scones supplied with the support of Macks Solicitors.

The Lord Lieutenant of Durham Sue Snowdon and the Mayor of Darlington Cllr Sonia Kane will be the special guests at the free event, which promises live music, dancing and lots of stalls offering information on a host of services and organisations for older residents and other people of all ages.

Susan Walker, GOLD chair, said: “Our annual tea dance continues to be a popular event and we’re grateful to HC-One for its continued sponsorship and for the support from Ringtons Ltd, Macks Solicitors and the council.

“Get your sequence or ballroom dance club to come along to the Market Square on the day and meet up with friends to enjoy the music and join in with the dancing, listening and singing along to the Lipsticks girls. GOLD line dancers will give us a demonstration and entertain us during the event.

“There will be many stalls giving information about organisations that offer support and activities for older people living in Darlington.  There's no need to book, just come along between 11am and 3pm and join in the fun.”

Stephen Butterworth, chief operations officer at HC-One, said: “We are delighted to once again sponsor the GOLD Tea Dance - an event that creates so many happy memories for everyone involved. As one of Darlington’s largest employers, HC-One is proud to be supporting this inspiring community initiative for the fourth consecutive year.

“Caring with kindness is at the heart of everything we do, and we’re pleased to stand alongside Growing Older Living in Darlington and Darlington Borough Council in making a positive difference for older people in our local community.”

The Mayor added: The GOLD Tea Dance is always a popular event and a great way to bring people together to have some fun.

“It’s just one of a host of summer events we have planned here in town, and we look forward to welcoming as many people as possible to come and enjoy Darlington.”

The fun starts at 11am and as well as the more traditional tea dance music there will also be some more modern tunes from local trio The Lipsticks to encourage you to get up and dance. The Texas Toe Tappers will also be demonstrating their fancy footwork.

Information stands will include GOLD/Darlington Citizens Advice, the council’s Lifeline Services, housing and hearing equipment teams, Healthwatch Darlington, Foresters Friendly Society, Darlington Association on Disability, Home Instead, Darlington Lions, Crimestoppers and Durham Constabulary, Darlington U3A, Darlington Libraries, Medequip,  Hopetown, Age UK North Yorkshire and Darlington, Primary Healthcare Darlington and the Stockton & Darlington 26 miles project.
