Key road to close for essential maintenance works

Key road to close for essential maintenance works
11 July 2016

Essential maintenance works are required on the westbound dual carriageway of the A1150 Stockton Road. The section to be repaired is between the A66 and Great Burdon village.

The works involve deep reconstruction and to undertake these works safely the westbound dual carriageway must be closed.  The eastbound lanes will remain open at all times.

The works are scheduled for 10 days between Friday 22 and Sunday 31 July 2016. Advanced signs are being placed prior to the works to warn drivers so they may plan alternative routes and allow more time four journeys.

This section of road carries significant volumes of traffic and we are warning drivers to expect significant delays around Darlington and on the diversion route.

A signed diversion route for westbound traffic will be via the A66, Darlington Eastern Transport Corridor, McMullen Road and Stockton Road to return to the A1150 at Whinfield Road (see Map attached)

If you are travelling to Darlington from Stockton an alternative route is available via the A67 from the A66 Long Newton interchange.

The X66/X67 bus service will be affected by this closure. An alternative route to the town centre will be provided. Notices will be posted at affected bus stops explaining what alternatives there will be to passengers in advance of the closure starting.

Darlington Borough Council apologises for the delays that this will cause whilst these essential works are carried out.

Drivers are advised to consider alternative routes and allow more time for their journey via the diversion routes.
