Major roadworks on Haughton Road

Major roadworks on Haughton Road
28 July 2017

A series of essential roadworks will begin on Haughton Road in Darlington next week.

Northumbrian Water Limited need to make connections into their water main and sewer system in Haughton Road to supply a nearby housing development.

This is likely to result in significant traffic delays from Monday 31 July for approximately 3 weeks on Haughton Road.

The works will require the closure of the Haughton Road/Hundens Lane junction and temporary traffic lights on the section of Haughton road between Barton Street and Central Park/College.

This will be in place for up to 3 weeks.  There will be no bus services on Hundens Lane during this period.

During this period Darlington Borough Council is also undertaking essential highway maintenance to resurface Haughton Road from McMullen Road to the Darlington Eastern Transport Corridor (DETC) junction.

This will mean Haughton Road will be closed between McMullen Road and the DETC junction. This will also start on Monday 31 July and will last for up to 2 weeks.

Both sets of works are planned together to take advantage of the quieter traffic periods through the school holidays and to avoid more disruption later in the year.  It will also assist the temporary traffic lights on Haughton Road to operate as efficiently as possible.

The traffic signals at the DETC and the college junction will be switched off for the duration of the works due to the proximity of the temporary traffic light system needed for the works.

A signed diversion route via McMullen Road and DETC will be in place for the duration of the works.

We apologise for the delays that these essential works will cause and drivers are asked to use alternative routes if possible.
