Activity extravaganza at plan launch

Activity extravaganza at plan launch
12 April 2018

DOZENS of children and young people enjoyed trying their hand at a range of activities – including archery, boxercise and yoga – at a free event in Darlington.

The Easter holiday extravaganza was held at the Dolphin Centre on Wednesday (11 April) to mark the launch of the new Darlington Children and Young People’s Plan (CYPP).

The CYPP has been produced by Darlington Borough Council, in partnership with young people, health professionals, the police, young carers, the voluntary sector and schools.

It will be reviewed each year between now and 2022, to identify key activities based on emerging needs.

Autism ambassador and artist Jonathan Raiseborough was invited to produce artwork for the front and back covers of the plan. Giant versions of the artwork were produced for the launch event, for youngsters to hone their colouring skills.

Other attractions at the event included table tennis, crafts and music sessions, while there were stalls from organisations including Darlington College and Tees Valley YMCA.

Darlington’s recently-elected youth MP Francis Humble was on hand to discuss the CYPP and talk through his manifesto.

He is pictured with Councillor Cyndi Hughes, Darlington Borough Council's Cabinet member for children and young people and Jane Kochanowski, assistant director - children's services.
