Fun for all ages in Darlington this Bank Holiday weekend

Fun for all ages in Darlington this Bank Holiday weekend
20 August 2018

The town centre will come alive to the sound of music, classic cars and street theatre this Bank Holiday weekend.

The Vintage Vehicle Rally returns to Darlington for the first time since 2016 on Saturday (August 25), with cars of all shapes and sizes set to fill the Market Square, High Row, West Row and East Row.

Live music will be provided throughout the day by a vintage singer, ukulele band D’ukes of Scarth and musician Ivor Pop.

The event has been organised by businessman Peter Bulmer, owner of the Waterhouse Café in the Covered Market, with support from the market operator Market Asset Management (MAM) and Darlington Borough Council.

Vintage motorcycles will also fill Skinnergate, along with a traditional fairground organ to add a musical flavour to events.

Saturday will also be a day of family entertainment around the town centre, with children’s entertainer Tom Rolfe bringing his Defying Gravity show.

On Sunday (Aug 26), the world’s best performers come to Darlington (sort of!).

The popular Tributes Live event will return to Darlington Market Square from 1pm, featuring live acts performing as Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Abba, Hot Chocolate and Chic.

The free event continues throughout the day – no tickets required.

Also on Sunday, look out for a display of custom bikes and trikes on West Row.

To round off the Bank Holiday weekend there will be a day of street theatre alongside the usual Monday outdoor market, as well as free face painting on West Row.

Councillor Nick Wallis, cabinet member for leisure, said: “It’s been a great summer of activities in the town centre and we’re pleased to round off the holidays with three days of entertainment for all the family.

“A big thank you to Peter Bulmer for reviving the Vintage Car Festival, we’re very pleased to have been able to offer support to bring a popular event back to the town.

“Don’t forget, our two hours free parking offer is still available in the council’s long-stay car parks, so take advantage to enjoy the free activities in town this Bank Holiday.”
