Inaugural girls tag rugby festival

Inaugural girls tag rugby festival
17 October 2018

Darlington's first girls-only tag rugby festival for primary-age children takes place this week at Mowden Park rugby football club.

More than 100 girls from ten primary schools will take part in the event on Friday 19 October which will include a visit from Heather Kerr, Mowden Sharks and England ladies loose-head prop, who will hope to inspire and motivate the teams.

The festival, organised by the Darlington School Sports Partnership, is part of the Darlington School Games which encourages children to get active.

The schools taking part are: Abbey; Firthmoor; Heathfield; High Coniscliffe; Mount Pleasant; Red Hall; Reid Street; St Mary’s, Cockerton; Springfield and The Rydal Academy

Tag rugby is a 7-a-side, non-contact fun format of rugby appropriate for primary-aged children. Two teams from the girls-only event will progress through to represent Darlington in the Tees Valley finals next week in Middlesbrough.
