Flying the flag for LGBT History Month

Flying the flag for LGBT History Month
23 January 2019

The pride flag is flying above the Town Hall to mark the start of LGBT History Month.

The aim of the international initiative is to increase awareness of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, their history, lives and their experiences and to promote equality and diversity.

The council has recently set up an equality and diversity group made up of members of staff who volunteer to promote equality and diversity issues amongst their colleagues.

Stephen Harker, Leader of Darlington Council, said: “The council is proud to support LGBT History Month by flying the pride flag. We are committed to ensuring equality and diversity in all walks of life and to promote tolerance and acceptance for everyone who lives, works and visits Darlington.”
