Darlington leading the way in road safety education

Road safety education in Darlington has been rated as the best in the UK for the second year running.

A sample of people from Darlington were asked to participate in the National Highways and Transportation Survey, an annual postal survey which measures public satisfaction with transport related themes across the country.

When the results of the survey were analysed, people living in Darlington were found to be the most satisfied in the UK with the road safety education provided to children about walking to school and cycling.

Councillor Nick Wallis, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for leisure and the local environment, said: “This is great news for everyone in Darlington, particularly parents.

“A lot of the road safety education work we do in Darlington is delivered in partnership with other agencies such as the police so it’s a real team effort to makes sure our young people are as well-equipped as they can be to stay safe on the roads.

“It’s great to see our efforts being recognised by residents.”
