On Saturday 20 February 2016, the Prime Minister announced the Government's intention to hold a referendum on the UK's membership of the European Union on Thursday 23 June 2016.
On Thursday 3 March 2016, the Minister signed the EU Referendum (date, for example.) Regulations 2016, which came into force on Friday 4 March 2016, formally confirming the date of the EU Referendum as Thursday 23 June 2016.
