The Gambling Act 2005 Policy [pdf document]
The Gambling Act 2005 gives Councils the responsibility for licensing premises where gambling/gaming takes place. These include:
- Casinos
- Bingo halls
- Betting shops
- Amusement arcades
In addition the Council is responsible for a range of permits such as licensed premises gaming machine permits, club gaming permits/gaming machine permits and small society lotteries
The 2005 Act requires Councils to produce, consult upon and publish a gambling Policy which indicates how the Council will deal with such applications.

The Gambling Act 2005 policy, which is known as the Statement of Principles [pdf document] is required to be revised every 3 years, The latest Policy document was approved by Council on 26 November 2009 for publication on 03 January 2010.
