April 2022 Under a Blue Sky

‘Under A Blue Sky’ - the exhibition of works by Alan Payler and a selection of other artists from the Community Art Project in Darlington. It is now open at Phoenix Art Space, Brighton until 24 April.

Friday 1 April was the launch event. Alan and five of the other artists (Anne Smith, Stephen Lawley, Michael Joyce, Cheryl Cordier and Victoria Bowman) travelled down to Brighton. They went with parents, support staff and CAP staff.

It was a great experience for us all. The exhibition and CAP in general received a great response from the audience. This included people from Outside In and other arts bodies.

Alan Payler displayed eleven beautiful drawings. Other CAP artists showed twenty-four artworks. The exhibition also includes a film about CAP commissioned by Outside In and made by Tom Thistlethwaite.

Three artists from CAP will be featured as ‘Artist of the Month’ on Outside In’s online gallery. First will be Anne Smith followed by Cheryl Cordier and Victoria Bowman.

On April 8 four artists from CAP will take part in a Share Art event. They will

  • mix recordings of themselves talking about their own artwork

  • take part in a short talk / question and answer session.

This comes after a course of online sessions with Morven McCrae from Garvald Arts in Edinburgh. This has given us new skills and confidence in using Zoom and describing our work to others.
