April 2022 Under a Blue Sky

‘Under A Blue Sky’, the exhibition of works by Alan Payler and a selection of other artists from the Community Art Project in Darlington is now open at Phoenix Art Space, Brighton until 24 April.

Alan and five of the other exhibiting artists (Anne Smith, Stephen Lawley, Michael Joyce, Cheryl Cordier and Victoria Bowman) travelled down to Brighton on Friday 1 April for the launch event with parents, support staff and CAP staff.

It was a brilliant experience for us all and the exhibition and CAP in general received a wonderful response from the audience including representatives from Outside In and other arts organisations.

As well as displaying eleven of Alan Payler’s beautiful drawings and twenty-four artworks from other CAP artists, the exhibition also includes a film about CAP commissioned by Outside In and made by Tom Thistlethwaite.

To coincide with the exhibition, three artists from CAP will be featured as ‘Artist of the Month’ on Outside In’s online gallery beginning with Anne Smith and to be followed by Cheryl Cordier and Victoria Bowman.

On April 8 four artists from CAP will participate in a Share Art event mixing pre-recordings of themselves talking about their own artwork and a short discussion / question and answer session.

This comes after a course of online sessions with Morven McCrae from Garvald Arts in Edinburgh which has given us new skills and confidence in using Zoom and describing our work to others.

A video of the Phoenix exhibition opening event as well as a short video showing the installation of the exhibition can be seen on Outside In’s Instagram page [external link].
