Drains and sewers
The property owner (or landlord) is responsible for drains within the curtilage (the land immediately surrounding) the house.
Northumbrian Water [external link] are responsible for drains and sewers outside the boundary of your house.
As the Council is your landlord, please contact us on 01325 405333 to report the fault. We will arrange an appointment for our drainage specialist to inspect.
If a drain is blocked that is outside of the boundary of your house and garden you will need to contact Northumbrian Water. If Northumbrian Water do not respond in good time or you believe that the problem is getting worse and they are not responding then you should contact us on 01325 405333.
If the drains within the curtilage of your house are blocked, contact Northumbrian Water.
Northumbrian Water are responsible for unblocking your shared private drains/sewers. If you are a private tenant and Northumbrian Water do not respond in good time contact the Private Sector Housing Team on 01325 405333 or email [email protected].
