CAP artists selected for national exhibition
Four artists from CAP have been selected for the Outside In National Open Exhibition 2025. Their work was chosen from more than 600 applicants for this year's exhibition, which has the theme 'Shelter'.
The selected artists are:
- Cheryl Cordier
- Anne Smith
- Jennifer Smith
- Emma Watson
The exhibition opens at The New Art Gallery Walsall in June 2025. It will then move to Christie's in London in January 2026.
Stephen Snoddy, Director of The New Art Gallery Walsall, said:
"We are delighted to be hosting this important exhibition as part of our ongoing partnership with Outside In. This is an excellent opportunity to continue to develop access and exhibit work by artists who face barriers engaging with the arts sector. It will also enable us to create further opportunities to diversify and shine the spotlight on work that could all too easily be overlooked.”
The Shelter exhibition also includes awards chosen by an independent judge. One of the prizes is a solo exhibition. CAP artist Alan Payler won this award at the Outside In National Open exhibition in 2019.

Visit to MIMA
On 30 January, the Community Art Project visited MIMA (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art) in Middlesbrough.
The group explored Towards New Worlds, an exhibition showing work by artists who are disabled, D/deaf and/or neurodiverse.
They also enjoyed a display of colourful Cumbrian rag rugs created by artist Winifred Nicholson.
The Community Art Project will also have an exhibition at Darlington Crown Street Gallery later this year. This will include a selection of artwork by all current attenders using a variety of media.
