Great Big Green Week

Following on fast from World Environment Day comes a whole week of celebrating UK community action to tackle climate change and protect nature.

The Great Big Green Week runs from 10th to 18th June. The website has lots of fantastic ideas of things to do.

Why not check out some of the amazing green spaces that Darlington and the surrounding area has to offer? If you’d like to find out how you can get to them by bike you can have a look at our Darlington cycle map.

Spending time in green space, bringing nature into your everyday life and travelling actively, can help both your mental and physical wellbeing. It can:

  • improve your mood
  • reduce feelings of stress or anger
  • help you take time out and feel more relaxed
  • improve your physical health
  • improve the quality of your sleep
  • improve your confidence and self-esteem
  • help you be more active
  • help you meet and get to know new people
  • connect you to your local community
  • reduce loneliness
  • help you feel more connected to nature

And did you know that people who exercise regularly have a lower risk of developing many long-term conditions, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, some cancers, dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

Volunteering is one way that you can get your green fix. Check out the green volunteering pages on this site to see where you can join in and help your local environment as well as your own health and wellbeing.

If you’d like to chat with one of our travel advisors to find ways of travelling more sustainably call 07958 953646 or 07966 883805.
