Who do you keep information about?

We keep information about individuals who sign a petition.

Why do you keep information about me?

We hold names and addresses of people who sign petitions to enables the Council to consider the matter at Cabinet. 

We collect and use your personal information only where it is necessary to do so in order to perform our public tasks or duties as a Local Authority (Art 6(1)(e)).

Who can see my information?

Law and Governance, Democratic Services Staff.  Your information may be shared with other Council departments  to check the validity of the name and address you provide.  Petitions may be considered at public meetings of the Council's Cabinet.  At such a meeting a copy of the petition may be made available for inspection. 

How do you store the information you keep about me?

We store paper and electronic versions of petitions, securely on our network or in a locked filing Cabinet.

How long do you keep information about me?

We will keep the information for 6 years.  This information is destroyed securely when we no longer need it.

Is my information used to make an automated decision about me and/or for profiling purposes?

If you claim Council Tax Support or Housing Benefit we may use your information in some calculations which use an automated decision-making process. You do have the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing. You can ask for any automated decision made about you to be reviewed by an individual.

What sort of information do you keep?

We may use the following information about you to make sure that we provide you with the right service, advice or support.  We will only use the minimum amount of information necessary to do so and will take every reasonable step to ensure the information is accurate. 

Personal data:

  • Name, including signature
  • Location data (Address, post code)
